Jewelry of love
2020
This series views jewelry that has been given to me from members of my family. Each piece of jewelry holds specific memories from each family member from their own life and placed into my hands. I now hold a physical connection between myself and the family member who each piece once belonged. As you live with something, you create your own memories within it as well. Of course it's not only jewelry that creates this connection but anything passed down to you. Similar to this series is my series Objects of Youth.
This series is created using soft brushstrokes rendering realistic oil paintings which encompass the idea that an object is more than it's material value, and more of a memory vessel. These paintings all have a united but unimportantly painted background to create a focal point on each realistically composed piece of jewelry. Each piece of jewelry is placed on top of velvet fabric. The jewelry does not overtake the scene since the jewelry itself is not what’s important, but the familial bonds that reside in each piece.
