Objects of Youth
2019
Do you own anything you had in your childhood, whether it was yours or if it was in your childhood home, in the house of a grandparent, aunt, or uncle? When you think of that item do you imagine it, where it was, or where you have it now? Does it bring back vivid memories or can you only remember an idea of where it was?
This is a series of 5 object paintings. I did not want to have a specific or clear background since my memories are not detailed enough to recreate the place these objects once sat. Some of the objects have more significance to me than others though the style of painting is not affected by this. They all have a connection to the past that I want to cherish, a connection to people who are no longer with us, as well as people I am still able to interact with. Many of these objects I’ve seen throughout my childhood, as time passed they stood where they were. They watched me grow, keeping many memories as well as keeping close ties to the people I love. Some also have specific memories of a time I may have noticed them more or found importance in them.
